For many years, the International Akademie Fresenius Conference “Worker, Operator, Bystander and Resident Exposure and Risk Assessment” has been the perfect platform for bringing together the scientific, industrial and regulatory communities. We therefore cordially invite you to this year’s Conference. Plenty of exciting presentations are awaiting you!
The conference will be taking place once again in 2022: On 13 and 14 December in Cologne. Of course, the health of all our participants is our number one priority. That is why we have strictly limited the number of places this time around.

Imran Ali is a Toxicologist and currently working as a Scientific Officer Toxicologist at the Unit of Health Risk Assessment, at the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KEMI). In this role he assists with the evaluation of both hazard and exposure assessments of plants protection products. Imran Ali is also the Coordinator of the Northern Zone Toxicology for the year 2022.

Neil A. Byron is working as a Senior Managing Scientist in Exponent UK’s Health Sciences Center for Chemical Regulation and Food Safety. Prior to joining Exponent he was with the UK’s CRD for 18 years. He is a human exposure assessment specialist, having over 25 years of experience in exposure and risk assessment of PPP and is currently involved with the industry’s SeedTropex task Force who are developing a new exposure model for seed treatment.

Agathi Charistou is a Regulatory Toxicologist in the Laboratory of Toxicological Control of Pesticides at the Benaki Phytopathological Institute in Greece with long experience in the evaluation of mammalian toxicology studies and non-dietary exposure assessment to both plant protection products and biocides.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USA
Jeffrey L. Dawson is the Senior Science Advisor in the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP) of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In this role he assists with the development and implementation of risk-based approaches for the evaluation of new and existing industrial chemicals and pesticides. He is also responsible for PFAS coordination and homeland security policy. He has 25 years of public service as a scientist in OCSPP, including holding positions as the Acting Director of OPPT’s Risk Assessment Division and the Deputy Director of OPP’s Health Effects Division.

Europrean Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Italy
Frédérique Istace is Scientific Officer in the Pesticides peer review Unit of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in Parma. Involved in the peer review of active substances from PPPs in the fields of mammalian toxicology and non-dietary exposure, she has contributed to update of the EFSA guidance on the assessment of exposure for operators, workers, residents and bystanders in risk assessment for PPPs.

Marc Kennedy has worked as a statistical researcher at the Universities of Nottingham and Sheffield, and the US National Institute of Statistical Sciences. He has expertise in the analysis of computer simulation models and has developed specialist tools and software for sensitivity analysis, uncertainty analysis and calibration of complex models. Applications have included engineering, carbon dynamics, hydrology, ecology, food safety and atmospheric dispersion. Since 2006 he has worked as a Statistician and Risk Analyst at Fera, mainly on EU projects for exposure to mixtures of pesticides from dietary residues and crop spraying, risk-benefit analysis and Total Diet Studies. He has contributed to expert working groups for EFSA and ILSI Europe.

Paolo Marucco is a Research Technician in the Crop Protection Laboratory of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Science (DISAFA) at the University of Turin that is involved in the activities of experiments and research on spray application, collaborating with the local regional administrations, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the European Union, several sprayers manufacturers and plant protection products companies. Paolo Marucco is responsible for planning, excution and reporting of field trials with sprayers in the ambit of EU and national projects (e.g. H2020 OPTIMA, Life PERFECT, etc.).

Prior to joining Blue Frog Scientific in 2019 he was a Risk Assessor in the human health assessment team at Corteva agriscience for 9 years. Before joining Corteva he worked in contract research organisations for 8 years.

Enrico Peter is a Biologist and has been working at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) as a Scientist in the Department Pesticides Safety since 2019. He is responsible for the risk assessment for plant protection product (with emphasis on non-dietary risk assessment) and the evaluation of toxicological data on plant protection products.

National Food Chain Safety Office (NEBIH), Hungary
Ágnes Pálovics is a Regulatory Consultant at the National Food Chain Safety Office (NEBIH) in Budapest. In this role she assists with the toxicological evaluation and non-dietary risk assessment of plant protection products and their active substances. She graduated as a Toxicologist and as a Biologist and has also experience in conducting in vivo and in vitro toxicological studies and in biochemical genetics.

Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Germany
Dirk Rautmann is the Deputy Head of the Institute for Application Techniques in Plan Protection at the Julius Kühn-Institut in Braunschweig. Since 1987 he has been working on all aspects of plant protection equipment, drift and drift reduction, dust drift from sowing machines and seed treatment.

State Secretary for Economic Affairs SECO, Switzerland
Olivier Sanvido is a Biologist and an European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). He is the Deputy Head of Section “Chemicals and Occupational Health” at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Switzerland and in charge of the regulatory approval of plant protection products, in particular the assessment of operator and worker safety. He was a Research Scientist at Agroscope in Switzerland where he was a specialist on environmental risk assessment and monitoring of genetically modified (GM) plants. He has over 25 years of professional experience including 4 years in regulatory affairs and quality assurance in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore, USA
Anugrah Shaw is a Professor at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and has conducted research on protective clothing for pesticide applicators for three decades. She also serves as Director, International Center for PPE for Pesticide Operators and Re-entry Workers. Anugrah has provided leadership for the development of international standards on protective clothing for pesticide operators and is currently coordinating international initiatives on operator safety.
